A map has a scale of 1: 5000. If the street that I live on is 950m, how long would it be on the map in mm?
Divide the real measurement by the scale factor
950m ÷ 5000 = 0.19m
convert to mm by multiplying by 1000 as 1m = 1000mm
0.19 × 1000 = 190mm
The scale on an aerial photograph is given as 1 mm = 200m. If the distance between two landmarks A and B is 350m, what is the distance between A and B on the map?
Convert the real life distance to the scale 350m ÷ 200m = 1.75
this means there are 1.75 lots of 1mm = 1.75mm
