    Stephen earned $19 840 a year. He spent 32% of it on rent and 60% of the remainder on living expenses. How much did he have left?

    rent = 19 840 × 32%

    = $6,348.80

    calculate the rent by finding 32% of $19,840

    remainder = 19 840 – 6 348.80

    = $13 491.20

    calculate the remainder by subtracting the rent from his salary

    living expenses = 13,491.20 × 60%

    = $8 094.72

    find 60% of the remainder, which is spent on living expenses

    = $19 840 – $6 348.80 – $8 094.72

    = $5 396.48

    Money left over = income – all expenses (rent and living)

    b. Determine how much per week Ryan spends on entertainment.

    c. What percentage of Ryan’s income goes towards Health Insurance?

    a. divided bar graph

    b. $$\frac{5}{21}\times $620$$ = $147.62

    there are 21 blocks across, and entertainment is 5 blocks

    c. $$\frac{2}{21}\times 100$$ = 9.5%

    there are 2 blocks out of 21 for health insurance, and multiply it by 100 to change to a percent
