  The ratio of the lengths of the sides of two cubes is 1:3. Find the following: a. The ratio of their surface areas b. The ratio of their volumes.
  a. sides = 1 : 3 ratio of areas = 12 : 32 = 1 : 9	the ratios of areas or surface areas are just the ratios of the sides squared
  b. sides = 1 : 3 ratio of volumes = 13 : 33 = 1 : 27	the ratios of the volume are just the ratios of the sides cubed
